Microsoft is making another major bet on the cloud.
The company’s Azure platform, which it has been rolling out in beta to partners in recent weeks, is a significant investment for Microsoft as it looks to win back users who are abandoning traditional desktop and laptop computers.
In a move that is sure to generate a lot of buzz in the tech industry, Microsoft announced today that it has signed a $20 million deal to buy a company called Hyperion, which is working on a new cloud-based platform.
The new Hyperion platform will be Microsoft’s first cloud platform.
Microsoft announced the acquisition in a blog post on Tuesday, with Hyperion founder John J. Mackenzie saying that Microsoft would partner with Hyperions customers to help the cloud-centric company develop a “cloud-first” platform.
Hyperion is not a new company, but the deal with Microsoft is the latest in a string of investments by Microsoft, which has already invested $250 million in a company known as Microsoft Azure.
Hyperions CEO and cofounder Brian J. Ladd said the Hyperion team was “delighted” to be joining Microsoft.
“Microsoft has been a leader in cloud computing for many years, but we’re excited to be working alongside them to deliver a new and exciting cloud platform for our customers,” he said in a statement.
Hyperons is a cloud computing company that will be using Microsoft Azure to run its cloud-native software, which Microsoft has been making available to customers.
Microsoft Azure has been used by many of the largest tech companies in the past decade.
Its service, however, has been controversial in the industry.
Microsoft has had to fight for a large chunk of its Azure revenue to cover the cost of running its cloud platform, a business model that has attracted criticism from companies that believe it has led to cloud-dependent software that has been slow to evolve and can be slow to adapt to new services.
Microsoft also has invested in several smaller startups that are trying to make the same claims.
These companies have not been successful.
For example, a group of startups called CloudFlare, which uses Microsoft Azure for its services, has made claims that it can significantly speed up the pace of updates for websites by using its own software to process the updates, according to Business Insider.
Other companies have made similar claims, and the fact that Microsoft is getting into this space at all is a good sign.
The CloudFlash claims are part of a larger trend of cloud-driven software, according in the company’s blog post.
Microsoft is also working to build a cloud-powered business.
The move is the first time the company has made a move like this since it launched its own cloud-focused service, Office 365, in 2011.
The cloud-first strategy is a way for Microsoft to compete in a market where competitors are increasingly building cloud-service solutions that compete with Microsoft’s own offerings.
Microsoft’s strategy has also become a source of controversy in recent years.
Microsoft bought a startup called Hyperium, which was working on building a cloud service that would use its own data centers, but a number of other tech companies have taken similar steps to try to make their own cloud offerings compete with the company.
These efforts have not succeeded.
As a result, Microsoft is now betting that the cloud is the future, and that it will help it win back its customers.
“Today’s announcement represents a significant step toward a cloud strategy for Microsoft,” Ladd wrote in the blog post today.
“Hyperion is a company that has demonstrated a strong track record of delivering successful cloud offerings, and we’re very confident that they will deliver on the promise of the HyperX platform.”
Hyperion will be responsible for the development of Hyperion.
Hyperium has been building out a series of cloud solutions since 2010, with a focus on creating a cloud platform that is faster and easier to use than Microsoft Azure and other offerings.
Hyperios has also built its own Azure service for many of its customers, but has not built a cloud server service.
Microsoft hopes that Hyperion can do the same for its customers in the future.
Hyperio is currently using Hyperion to run Azure apps for its business customers, and Microsoft is looking to bring Hyperion’s cloud services to other businesses.
